On-premises
Microsoft Exchange Server
On-premises version means a corporate client purchases Microsoft Exchange Server and Client Access License (CAL) and installs the software system into the servers in the corporate network. Microsoft has revamped the architecture to provide enterprise client with a feature-rich, secure, reliable and robust messaging and collaboration solution. The software is a one-off investment unless one pays for Microsoft Software Assurance (SA) subscription for future version protection.
Cloud-based (Hosted) Microsoft Exchange Solution - Exchange Online
If a corporation wants to save the hassle of setting up and maintaining the complicated Microsoft Exchange Server, the hosted cloud-based Microsoft Exchange Online service is the choice! A company can subscribe to Microsoft Exchange Online, a product in the Microsoft 365 family, in the a la carte or Microsoft 365 bundled products form. The annual subscription bases on the number of mailboxes.
